But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:
While we were still indifferent to God and unwilling to listen to him, Christ died for us to pay the penalty for our rebellion and made a way for us to have a relationship with God . The Bible – Romans 5:8
Paul, a follower of Jesus, wrote Romans 5:8. Below is a sampling of what he endured because of his faith in God. I have included it here to help you understand that many have given much so that the good news about Jesus would be available for all who would listen.
“I’ve worked much harder, been jailed more often, beaten up more times than I can count, and at death’s door time after time. I’ve been flogged five times with the Jews’ thirty-nine lashes, beaten by Roman rods three times, pummeled with rocks once. I’ve been shipwrecked three times, and immersed in the open sea for a night and a day. In hard traveling year in and year out, I’ve had to ford rivers, fend off robbers, struggle with friends, struggle with foes. I’ve been at risk in the city, at risk in the country, endangered by desert sun and sea storm, and betrayed by those I thought were my brothers. I’ve known drudgery and hard labor, many a long and lonely night without sleep, many a missed meal, blasted by the cold, naked to the weather”…..
The Bible – 2 Corinthians 11:23-27
There is much more Paul said here. I though that what was included above would provide some insight as to the love and great concern that motivated him. His desire to tell others about Jesus was the force that enabled him to go through what he did.
I like Paul heard about this great love while serving in Vietnam and could not turn it down.
